Canon EF 50mm f1.8II in the trash

Good bye 50mm f1.8II. You have served me well........NOT. Good riddance to you and the horrible bokeh you have produced for me. Big thank you for allowing me to fall in love with 50mm on my new full frame camera though. Your services are no longer needed. You're fired!!!!!! LOL.

Awesome view finder for LX3/DL4

OMG! I just saw this really cool view finder on a LX3 camera. It's from an old Russian camera according to the owner. Here's a picture of it(taken from the site bbGadgets). I presume it works by rotating the dial to the focal length that you want. That's sooooooooooo awesome man. I want!!!!!

I will be sure to look out for something like this on my next trip overseas to 1 of those really cool antique camera shops. This would make a brilliant addition to my Leica D-Lux4.

Canon EOS T-Shirts

Yay! I ordered these t-shirts last week. Waited impatiently for them to arrive and they're finally here. The white T has a EOS 5D MkII and the black T has a 70-200 f2.8L lens printed on it. Some really useful stuff to keep me close to my darlings when we are apart. I cannot bear to be away from them for too long. :)

I've been looking for the white T with the 1D MkIII on it but Canon tells me they stopped making them a long time ago. So I ordered these custom printed t-shirts instead. I like these even more as I actually own the stuff, rather than the 1D MkIII which I don't. Hehe.

Here's a closer look at the 5D MkII t-shirt to show the nice print. The resolution of the print is pretty good I have to say. The thing that disappoints me is the missing 5D MkII font after the EOS word on the strap. :( The quality of the cotton isn't very good either, which is disappointing as the t-shirts weren't cheap at rm55 a pop. I expected much better quality than this. I was hoping for at least Hanes quality. Oh well, they're here and I like them very much regardless of the quality so I'll just enjoy wearing them. Hehe.

ICIDU 2700mah AA batteries

Just bought these for my Canon 580EXII flash. It's sorta like a housebrand thing where they sell good stuff at very low prices as they don't spend any money on fancy packaging and advertising. The brand is ICIDU. The batteries are rated at 2700mah which should be good for my 580EXII flash.

I was looking for Sanyo Eneloop but for some reason they are not available at the shops now. I don't wanna buy from the online dealers as I prefer to buy from shops with warranties. Then I was looking at some Sony Energy Cycles which looked interesting. Pretty cheap too at rm88 for a pack of 4 AAs including a charger. They also sell them in 2s. A package of 2 Energy Cycle AAs costs rm39 so 4 of them would cost rm78. It's kinda like paying just rm10 more for the charger. These batteries supposedly retain about 80% of the charge even after 1 year. I was about to grab it when I saw these ICIDU branded batteries for only rm47. I decided to give it a try since it's so ridiculously cheap.

My other set of 4 AAs currently in the 580EXII now is also some generic brand called Konnoc. Those were even cheaper. I bought them last year for only rm59 including a charger! It's served me well until now. Just one of those rare times when cheap stuff work just as well if not better than branded stuff. I actually had a set of Energizer and also Fuji brand batteries fail on me after only 6 months. So I'd say the Konnoc batteries have been exemplary.

Well, the ICIDU batteries have just been fully charged and I'll be trying them out in the 580EXII over the next few days. Let's hope they work just as well as the Konnoc batteries.

Matt Black Mercedes CLK

Woooooo this is the 1st time I've seen a matt black Mercedes in KL. I've been thinking of doing it but my precious Obsidian Black paintwork is only 2 years old and it still looks as if it just came out from the factory. Anyway, here's 2 pictures I snapped with my Leica D-Lux4 yesterday. Lucky I had it with me. Hehe.

It's not particularly nice as it's got bits of gloss black here and there. You can see the bumper strips, door strips and wheels are gloss black. If I were to do it, it would be completely matt black. Thumbs up to the owner for having the only matt black Mercedes I've seen though.

Crazy Canon G9 wireless flash system

Howzabout this for a crazy system eh? It's a lovely lil Canon G9 with lotsa candlepower! Let's go with a 580EX II on it.

Not enough light? Let's go with 2x 580EX II and a ST-E2 wireless flash commander.

This system will never ever be short of light............ever. LOL. It's like bringing the sun along with us wherever we go. It kinda made me regret getting a Leica D-Lux 4 as my compact camera. I wish I'd gone with a G10 or G11 instead, seeing as the ST-E2 commander worked flawlessly with the G9. It would make a really potent compact system.

Big thanks to Vincent Pang my buddy for the use of his Canon G9 during this crazy fun session.

Jenson Button must not be World Champion!

Jenson is an arogant prick! He must not win the 2009 championship, I hope his engine blows up on the startline afterwards. Hopefully someone from the back takes him out at the 1st corner if he doesn't stall or explode at the start line.

My prediction for this race in Brazil is Rubens Barichello for the win. Jenson Button DNF! Who want's to bet with me? Hehehe.

GO RUBENS GO! Win the World Championship and take the number 1 plate to Williams next year. Haha.

Edit- Oh dagnabbit! Jenson is the World Champion. :( Oh well, at least Mercedes is World Champion again. That makes me happy. Hehehe.

Battery Grip for Canon 5D MkII(BG-E6)

Has anyone wondered why the BG-E6 is so ridiculously expensive? I certainly wondered why. In fact, it's terribly expensive if you ask me. I had a BG-E2N for my 40D and that only cost a fraction of what Canon wants us to pay for the BG-E6.

That's why I didn't buy the BG-E6 when I bought my 5D MkII. I figured I'd take a look at the 3rd party brands which are going for less than half the original. Well I have taken a look at a Meike branded one and it looked pretty good. Actually it looked almost as good as the real thing except that it didn't quite feel as solid.

During one of my weekend trips to Singapore, I saw a 5D MkII skeleton in a shop display and immediately understood why Canon charges us an arm and leg for the real thing. It's made entirely out of the same magnesium alloy that the 5D MkII is made of! Here's the picture I took of the skeleton 5D MkII in the shop window.

After thinking carefully about it, I'll probably hold back until my next trip to Singapore to get myself an original BG-E6 as it's a whole lot cheaper there. I want to maintain the solid feel of my camera and also have the reassurance of the built in weather resistance. I certainly don't trust the 3rd party grips to be weather resistant though they're supposed to be. Don't wanna find out the hard way after a tropical rainstorm. LOL. The other factor would be the tripod mount. I'm worried that the 3rd party grip's tripod mount will break due to the inferior plastic construction. The thought of my beloved 5D MkII and L lens falling on the floor gives me nightmares. So........... original BG-E6 for me it is.

For those of you who don't work in inclement weather and never use tripods, I guess the 3rd party grips are really good value for money though. Just looking at the price difference between original and 3rd party is enough to make us think 10 times! LOL.

Silverstone RV02 temperature report

So sorry guys. I totally forgot about the temps report. Suddenly noticed the picture folder on my Desktop and remembered I haven't posted them up. Anyway, here's the temps as reported by Rivatuner and displayed on my Logitech G19 LCD. Comparison is between RV01 and RV02.

Thermalright IFX14 in RV01Idle temps

During 3DM06 gfx test

During 3DM06 CPU test

Now let's take a look at the same hardware in a RV02.

Idle temps

During 3DM06 gfx test

During 3DM06 CPU test

Final result is a total win for the RV02. As you can see from the results above, the reduction in temperatures are very, very significant for both the gfx cards and CPU too. Looks like Silverstone has really done their homework this time and delivered us a super cool case.

Canon Speedlite on LX3/DL4

I had nothing better to do today and thought of this. I tried on the Canon Speedlite 270EX and 580EXII on my Leica D-Lux 4. Guess what? It works really well. :)

Here's how the 270EX looks like on my DL4.

It's nice and compact. Just perfect for the LX3/DL4. It's nicely balanced and it even stands nicely on the camera without toppling over. Here's a series of pictures showing the different positions of the flash head.

Standard wide angle position.

Tele position.

1st bounce position

2nd bounce position.

Vertical bounce.

I installed a Sto-Fen Omnibounce on it too.

Recommended bounce position by Sto-Fen.

The Canon Speedlite 270EX works really well on my DL4. Can't use auto mode though. It'll just get totally over exposed. Due to the 270EX not having any controls on it for manual flash control, I had to use manual mode on the camera to get the exposure right.

After trying out the 270EX, I went mad and popped on the big mama 580EXII! Here's how it looks like.

The Canon Speedlite 580EXII works really well too. In fact, it is so powerful that everything turns out totally white. LOL. To get the 580EXII to work perfectly I used the manual controls on the flash itself. After turning down the power manually it was really nice for the following example pics.

Here's a pic in available light with no flash. Shutter speed was a measly 1/3 and it's already blur from handshake.

With the power turned down, flash bouncing off the ceiling, I got this shot.

Here's how it looks like with the horrible pop up flash.

P1 Wimax, my saviour

Goodbye and good riddance to you Streamyx. I've had enough! Got myself a P1 Wimax account 2 days ago. It's so easy, just pay rm100 for the registration fee and off I go. The Activation fee of rm60 is free during this promotional period. I also got the Wifi modem for free by signing up for 2 years. On top of all that, I got 2 months subscription for free plus another month free by signing up for credit card auto debit to pay for the monthly subsciption fees.

All you have to do is plug the adaptor in, power it up and Voila!!!! We're online immediately. The SSID and Password is written on the USB Wifi stick. Just log into the Wifi using the provided SSID and Password and we're done. After that you can change the SSID and Password by using the web interface. Best experience I've had with a telco so far. It really was easy as 1,2,3.

I'm finally back online after suffering for weeks on the intermittent service provided by Telekom Malaysia. P1 is pretty good so far. Been online for 2 days straight and have not suffered any disconnects. Good stuff. One thing I haven't tried yet is online games. I wonder if it will be nice and smooth. The salesgirl assured me it would be just like a fixed broadband line. I'm wondering if my latency would be good enough for my Counter Strike Source sessions though. Will try that later and see how it goes.

I can finally resume with updating my blog after being quiet for so long. I couldn't even upload my pictures to Photobucket so I gave up totally, which is why there have been no updates of late. I'm back at last with P1 Wimax. Muahahaha.

Telekom Malaysia, U SUCK!

My damn Streamyx broadband line has been down for 2 weeks. All I get is about 2 hours of online time a day now. Can't do anything online at all. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I have so many pictures to upload and no broadband to do so. Lameness. I'm now using my mobile phone wireless internet to surf but that's about all I can do. :(

I'm seriously thinking of taking the P1 Wimax deal. 24 months subscription gets me a free wifi modem and no charges for registration and admin fees. Sounds good to me. I may just about "Just Cut!!!" as the P1 slogan goes.
